Course Content 

This course runs continuously all year round, 7 days a week except on some Thai holidays.  The basic introductory course runs for 20 hours over 5 days which consists of 4 hours per day broken up into 2 hours practical per day in our training centre and 2 hours theory during each day for 5 days. The theory can be done in your own time at any time of the day or night or in any place you like such as in your hotel room. The course is best done in pairs and follows this general style.

Day 1.    

Participant A receives a full 2 hour Thai Yoga Massage from Thai Therapist

Participant B watches a full 2 hour Thai Yoga Massage and takes notes

Both participants do required theory reading and questions for 2 hours, at a time and place that suits them. Field trips are encouraged and can be arranged and will contribute to course hours.

Day 2.    

Participant B receives a full 2 hour Thai Yoga Massage from Thai Therapist

Participant A watches a full 2 hour Thai Yoga Massage and takes notes

Both participants do required theory reading and questions for 2 hours, at a time and place that suits them. Field trips are encouraged and can be arranged and will contribute to course hours.

Day 3.    

Participant A practices a 1 hour Thai Yoga Massage on Participant B, Thai Therapist watches and guides

Participant B practices a 1 hour Thai Yoga Massage on Participant A, Thai Therapist watches and guides

Both participants do required theory reading and questions for 2 hours, at a time and place that suits them. Field trips are encouraged and can be arranged and will contribute to course hours.

Day 4.    

Participant A receives a full 1 hour Thai FOOT Massage from Thai Therapist, Participant B watches & takes notes

Participant B receives a full 1 hour Thai FOOT Massage from Thai Therapist, Participant A watches & takes notes

Both participants do required theory reading and questions for 2 hours, at a time and place that suits them. Field trips are encouraged and can be arranged and will contribute to course hours.

Day 5.    

Participant A practices a 1 hour Thai FOOT Massage on Participant B, Thai Therapist watches and guides

Both participants do required theory reading and questions for 2 hours, at a time and place that suits them. Field trips are encouraged and can be arranged and will contribute to course hours.

Optional field trips to other massage locations are used to compare and contrast the variations in Traditional Thai Yoga Massage techniques and particularly how they have been adapted for the farangs (foreign tourists).  Compare a beach massage on Phi Phi Island with that of a 5 star air-conditioned resort or spa. Be sure to include details of these trips in your training diary including travel to and from our centre.

You will learn:

  • Basic history of Thai Yoga Massage
  • The 10 major Sen energy lines in the body
  • Three key positions for applying techniques (front, back and sitting)
  • How to feel and hold the clients body
  • How to move and position yourself for effect and efficiency
  • How to use many parts of your body to apply techniques
  • Acupressure points and techniques to initiate energy movement through the body
  • Stretching methods and routines for muscles and joints

You will receive:

  • A Traditional Thai Yoga DVD. This DVD is filmed on location in Phuket showing 3 positions, techniques and methods you need to complete a basic Traditional Thai Yoga Massage. The DVD is filmed without speaking and has traditional Thai music in the background. The DVD has several sections. A. Introduction – a few minutes showing pictures of Phuket sights intertwined with sections of Thai massage. B. Position 1 – Lying on back, C. Position 2 – Lying on front, D. Position 3 – Sitting. The ‘bonus’ section contains Head & Face Massage which his often included in a typical Thai massage and also a full Thai Foot Massage on both feet is shown including use of wraps and wooden massage stick.

Training Tips and advice

Before the Massage 

Try not to have a full stomach or bladder.
Wear light clothes that allow freedom of movement, such as yoga or exercise clothing like t-shirts and cotton training pants. Shorts with zips, buttons and pockets and buttoned shirts are not recommended. Suitable clothing can be purchased at any of the markets in Patong.
 It is important to let the therapist know if you have any health issues, current or past injuries, or movement restrictions. IMPORTANT: Please note if you have calf pain after your flight to Phuket please consult a Doctor at the Bangkok Hospital in Phuket Town prior to starting Thai massage. It is possible you may have a life threatening blood clot (DVT – Deep Vein Thrombosis)
During the massage
Relax, focus on your breath and allow any stress to dissolve.
To get the best benefit and the most enjoyment from your experience, pay attention to the area that the masseur is working on.
Let your masseur know if you experience any discomfort during the massage.
After the massage
Drink water for re-hydration and cleansing. The best way to prolong your relaxation after leaving our centre is to have a warm bath and a nice meal followed by some quiet time.
